Applying for Jobs

At times, applying for jobs can be a long drawn out and even demoralising experience. This is especially the
case if you're putting in job applications 'on mass' and repeatedly filling out forms. This is why we
suggest that you concentrate your time on a few select positions available rather than sending out
your CV to hundreds of different employers.

The following diagram should help you to decide whether or not to apply for a particular job. Click on the diagram to see a larger version in PDF format (you will need to have adobe acrobat installed).

In the current economic climate there are increasingly large numbers of people applying for the same
positions. This means that competition is as high as ever and in order to have your application or
CV stands out amongst the rest in the pile you really will have to put the effort in.

As this approach probably means you will be putting in fewer (but better quality) applications you
need to be sure that every position that you do apply for is going to be reasonably suitable. There's
nothing worse than the excitement of receiving a job offer being ruined when you discover that the
job in question is not at all what you actually want to do.
